Lectures for Lazarski and Vistula universities
Master's, postgraduate and training courses
Academic programs that I have prepared for the Lazarski College of Commerce and Law and the Vistula Academy of Finance and Business in Warsaw, covered a wide range of issues related to management in enterprises, public administration and banking. I prepared master’s degree programs, among others, in cooperation with the University of Wisconsin La-Crosse and the University of Wales. Lectures and exercises (conducted in Polish and English) were highly appreciated by students and university authorities, as well as such employers as Allianz, Citi Bank Handlowy and Narodowy Bank Polski. They also received very good opinions from the American Embassy, the Polish-American Fulbright Commission and the Polish Bank Association.
Fundamentals of Strategic Management
The two-year MBA program was established in 2008 as a result of a partnership between Lazarski University and the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. It was the only Polish program accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) – the oldest and most prestigious agency accrediting educational business programs. The accreditation of this agency is held, among others, by Harvard, Columbia and Georgetown universities. A high level of teaching (in English) was provided by American and Polish lecturers. World-class teaching standards guaranteed the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and practical skills useful in international business. Particular attention was paid to the development of efficient decision-making and management skills in a changing business environment, as well as the ability to organize teamwork. Much space was also devoted to the issue of ethics in business. Students spent one semester at American universities. Graduates of this program obtained an MBA degree awarded by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, as well as a Polish master’s degree, after submitting a master’s thesis.
Master of Public Administration
The aim of the Master’s degree program (MPA) was to support the development of modern public administration by educating professional clerical staff and making them aware of the need for effective and ethical cooperation of all sectors of the state. The profile of education was social and managerial in nature, which means that the curriculum devoted more space to issues in the field of social sciences, economics and management organization than to administrative and legal issues. One of the goals was to offer students a wide range of choices in their field of study, tailored to their individual interests and needs. The formula of the program has made a breakthrough in the administrative and legal teaching model. Public administration was presented as a complex system of organizations performing interconnected service functions on a local, regional, national and supranational scale. The studies were of a highly interdisciplinary nature. They included subjects in the field of political science, law, business economy, psychology, sociology, management organization and ICT.
Strategic management in banking
The mission of the postgraduate studies in the field of strategic management in banking was to provide reliable, structured knowledge and practical skills sought after by employees and management of the banking sector, as well as other sectors of the financial services. The main objective of the studies was to equip students with the knowledge necessary to understand the relationships between the main and supporting business processes in banking and to prepare them to make responsible decisions at three main levels of management: corporate level (bank or capital group), level of strategic business units (profit generation centers) and functional level (organization of management). The specificity of finance and banking, distinguishing banking from other industries, required a special approach to the lecture of classic economic and business issues. The overriding goal of the program was to prepare graduates for the skilful conduct of business analyses, strategic planning and effective implementation of established plans.
Leadership
The purpose of the training organized for the top management of the Allianz group was to expand their competences in the field of people management and organization of management. The three-day training consisted of the following thematic modules: the concept and issues of leadership; mental and emotional impacts; the role of a leader in the process of strategic management and organizational change management; practical aspects of strategic planning and formulating strategic action plans; group work techniques and project management; leadership in a rapidly changing environment and stress management. The training took the form of lectures and workshops. It also offered the opportunity to share experience, ask questions, exchange views and consult on real business issues in the Allianz group of companies. The value of the training consisted, among other things, in presenting in one educational package a set of so-called soft and hard skills that every professional manager should poses.
It’s important to never stop asking. Curiosity does not exist without a reason. Contemplating the mysteries of eternity, life and the wonderful structure of reality, one cannot avoid fear. So it is enough if we try to understand a little bit of this mystery every day.
